Thanks to the radio and TV fee, the public service companies are able to broadcast interesting, good, fun, serious, long, short, exciting or important programmes, free of political and commercial influences.
The radio and TV fee costs 2 076 kronor per year, or 173 kronor per month during 2012.
Who has to pay the radio and TV fee?
Every household and company that owns, rents or borrows a television receiver has to pay a radio and TV fee. It doesn't matter which channels you watch, the mere fact that you have a TV receiver makes you liable to pay for a radio and TV fee. A single radio and TV fee is payable for all receivers in one and the same household. The definition of a household includes a second home (holiday/weekend cottage), caravan or temporary accomodation elsewhere.
What is a television receiver?
The term "television receiver" includes:
- TV sets
- Digital TV-selector
- Computers with a TV-card making it possible to receive TV signalsVideo recorders with channel selector
- Video cameras with channel selector
- DVD player with channel selector
The radio and TV fee is not included in the fee charged for cable or satellite TV.
